Combust Planets: What Factors Affect Their Strength of Combustion?

A planet becomes weak when it comes extremely close to the Sun, which is more than a safer distance to maintain. It loses some of its strength due to being too close to the Sun as the Sun burns out some of its strength. Such a planet is called a combustible planet. Though the planet loses strength, how much strength it may lose depends on many factors in the person’s horoscope. Thus, it is not decided on the basis of combustion only.

The distance the Combust Planet has Travelled

The closer the planet gets to the Sun after entering a certain minimum distance, the more combust it will get. For instance, if the Sun is placed in Leo at 20 degrees and Mercury at 10 degrees. Mercury is now a combust planet since it has entered the minimum required distance for its combustion to occur, but it may not lose much power since it is not very close to the Sun.

However, if placed at 18 degrees, the combustion of Mercury will be much stronger than in the first case since the distance between the Sun and Mercury is much smaller. Further, the combustion of Mercury will be the strongest if both Mercury and the Sun are placed at 20 degrees in the same sign.

Sign of Placement of Combust Planet and of Sun

The sign of placement of the combust planet as well as the Sun is an important factor that influences the intensity of combustion. Let us understand this with an example. If a combination of Saturn and the Sun is placed in Gemini, Saturn will become combust by getting within 15 degrees of the Sun. This is a regular combustion since both Saturn and Sun are comfortable in Gemini. However, if the same combination is used in Aries, Saturn’s combustion will be much stronger than that of Gemini.

This happens because the Sun gets exalted in Aries and hence gains maximum strength in the sign. This means that it has more power to burn any planet that comes near it. Meanwhile, Saturn gets debilitated in Aries. Since it is already weak, it is not able to resist such strong combustion.

On the other hand, if we see a combination of a debilitated Sun and exalted Saturn in Libra, the results may be different. Since the Sun is debilitated in Libra, it may not be able to burn out much strength from the exalted Saturn. Therefore, a debilitated Saturn is more capable of fighting such combustion since the Sun is debilitated.

Nature of the Sun in a Horoscope

The working nature of the Sun in the horoscope and of the planet becoming combusting due to its closeness to the Sun also influences the strength of combustion. So if the benefic Sun is conjunct with a planet, it will likely be less damaged by combustion than when the Sun is malefic in the horoscope. When a benefic planet becomes combusted by the benefic Sun, there are two processes going on at the same time.

The first process is combustion, and the second is the process through which two benefic planets interact with each other in the same house and sign. In the second process, both planets provide strength to each other and complement each other in many ways. Hence, the combustion of such a planet is not as damaging as the planet, which also receives positive energy from the Sun, apart from undergoing combustion.

If a malefic planet becomes combusted by a malefic Sun, the damage may increase as two processes are in progress at the same time. The first one is the combustion, and the second one is the princess by which the malefic Sun afflicts the benefic planet involved in the combination.

The planets receive negative energy from the Sun through the process of affliction in addition to burning some of its strength by combustion. Thus, the benefic planet loses a part of its positive energy to counteract such negative energy. In this process, it loses some of its strength in the form of positive energy. Thus, the malefic Sun burns a benefic planet and also affects it, resulting in more weakness of the planet.

Presence of Other Benefic or Malefic Planets

The presence of other benefic and malefic planets at the same sign can change the results dramatically. For instance, if the Sun is placed in Pisces with benefic Jupiter and benefic Moon, the effect of combustion may not be very strong since Jupiter and Moon are strong in Pisces. Thus, they will strengthen each other and reduce the weakness caused by combustion.

The Bottom Line

We can conclude that all-important factors should be considered when determining the amount of damage caused by combustion. The results will vary in different cases. The best astrologer will consider all of these factors to study how strong the combustion of planets is in your horoscope.
